What to look for in a cue stick.
When shopping for a cue stick, your selection like any other piece of sports equipment will be based on personal preference and your ability. You have a different stroke and hold the stick a little differently then anyone else. So, when selecting a cue stick, select a weight and balance that is comfortable for your style of play.
A good quality pool cue is typically constructed from straight grained hard rock maple wood, not to be confused with Snooker cues which are made of ash wood. Other materials found covering the wood can be carbon fiber, fiberglass and/or aluminum. You can expect to pay from $50 to $1,000 for a manufactured pool cue. Some argue that alternative construction materials such as aluminum cue sticks are less susceptible to bending or warping making them a better choice. However, a good quality wooden cue stick should not warp if protected from temperature fluctuations and is stored properly.
